How to create a custom attribute

Custom attributes are extra fields that appear on every job in an architecture, for example job family, department or location. Each attribute becomes a filter, a column option and a grouping option on the job views.

Available to any role that can, except where noted:

Manage job architecture

Solution overview

Open your architecture's settings, go to Custom Attributes, click Add attribute, then set the attribute's name, type and options.

Step 1: Open Custom Attributes settings

  1. Open your architecture so its job list is showing.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right of the job list to open Settings.
  3. In the settings sidebar, click Custom Attributes.

Step 2: Add the attribute

  1. Click + Add attribute.
  2. Enter an Attribute name, for example Cost centre.
  3. Choose a Type. The options are Free text, Long text, Number, Yes / No, Date, List of values, and List of values (multiple).
  4. Add a Description if you want to. This shows as help text under the attribute.
  5. To make the attribute mandatory when someone creates or edits a job, tick Required on the job form.
  6. Click Save.

Step 3: Add the values (list types only)

  1. If you chose List of values or List of values (multiple), add the options people can choose from. On the attribute, click + Add value, type the value, and click enter to save it. Repeat for each option.

  2. Remove a value with the x beside it.

Note: the order of your attributes sets the order they appear everywhere jobs are shown as a set. Drag an attribute to reorder it, or use the arrows beside it.
