# How to evaluate a job with the point factor view

## Evaluating a job scores it against the four factors of the EIGE point factor method: skills, responsibility, effort and working conditions. The score sets the job's total points and its job level. Once a job is evaluated, it can be used in pay analysis.

Available to any role that can, *except where noted*:

**Add or edit jobs**

### **Solution overview**

There are three ways to evaluate a job. Score it yourself in the **Job evaluation method** card, import a ready-made evaluation from the **SkillsTrust library**, or use the guided **Evaluate** option. All are reached from the job's profile, and the library and manual routes are also offered on the suggestion banner.

**Note:** when an architecture has jobs that are not yet scored, a suggestion banner appears with the count, for example "1 jobs have not been evaluated yet", and the reminder that an unevaluated job cannot be used in pay analysis. From here you can click **Import from the library** or **Evaluate manually**.

#### Method 1: Score the job yourself

1. Open the job.
2. On the **Job evaluation method** card, click **Edit**. The evaluation opens.
3. You will see the four factors: **Skills**, **Responsibility**, **Effort** and **Working conditions**. Your running **Total points** and **Level** show at the top.
4. Click a factor to expand it.
5. For each sub-factor, select the level that best describes the job. Every level has a description and a point value, and higher levels carry more points. For example, under Skills you select a level for Knowledge.
6. Work through all four factors and their sub-factors. The total points and job level update as you go.
7. Click **Save**, or **Cancel** to discard your changes.

#### Method 2: Import an evaluation from the SkillsTrust library

1. On the suggestion banner, click **Import from the library**.
2. Choose how to import:
     1. **Quick import (all at once)** brings in exact title matches with no judgement call.
            1. Review the list, untick anything you want to leave alone, set the single option for the whole batch, which covers what the library fills in and what happens to existing content.
            2. Then click **Import \[n\] exact matches**. This is available only when at least one job title matches a library profile exactly.
     2. **One at a time (review each)** lets you compare profiles before importing.
            1. Click **Review \[n\] jobs**. For each job, the suggested library profiles show side by side, with an exact title match loaded in already.
            2. Use **Search the library** to add more profiles to compare.
            3. Select **Use this profile** on the one you want, then click **Import and next**.
            4. Use **Skip for now** to leave a job for later, or **Previous** to go back. Each job saves as you import it, so you can stop at any point.
3. When there are no jobs left, you see **Import complete**. Click **Back to jobs**.
4. You can leave the import at any time with **Leave import**.

#### Method 3: Use Evaluate flow

1. Open the job.
2. In the top right of the profile, click **Evaluate** and follow the prompts to evaluate the job.

**Note:** the level descriptions come from the EIGE point factor method. For what each factor and sub-factor means, see [How the EIGE point factor job evaluation method works](https://knowledge.skillstrust.org/pfm?hsLang=en). A job that has not been evaluated cannot be used in pay analysis.
